Capturing the dark days
As the days have grown shorter and cooler, I’ve typically veered away from my usual vivid and bright colors. Perhaps it’s because Stowe is so delightfully quiet right now and the holidays are around the corner, but November is my favorite time of year barring Christmas and fall foliage! In the past, I’ve often put my camera bag in storage, but this year I’ve made it a point to keep shooting photos.
November is a time for a different focus. Fewer sweeping landscapes from my drone, but more focus on smaller details and "abstract" scenes (if such a concept is even possible in photography!). I love to drive around back roads, especially on foggy mornings, and capture beauty in its smaller, more modest form. That means individual trees, silhouettes, darker scenes, and more. Brown and grey tones will be substituting for the usual bright shades of green, yellow, orange and blue. Shadows will be lifted in Lightroom and the saturation slider pulled back a bit to enhance the mood of the original scene.
I've created a dedicated gallery on my website which includes this different work. I've called it -- appropriately -- "Dark Days". The number of photos in it is quite small at this time, but I will make sure it keeps growing! As snowy days (and yet a different focus) are around the corner, I'm excited to take advantage of this unique moment to capture scenes you normally wouldn't see on my feed that often.
Hope you enjoy!
